Born A Crime

This post is focused on the autobiography, Born A Crime by Trevor Noah.  I loved every second of this book and I think other people would too.

This book is about how Trevor Noah, a mixed race South African, was born when it was illegal for people of different races to be together. This book outlines his mother's struggle to keep him safe during the first few years of his life. He talks about his high school life, his relationship with his mother, his brush with the law, how he used humour to become who he is today and many other events in his life.

I read this book everyday after school and took me less than a week to finish. The real life stories are  unbelievable and this makes the book exciting and hard to put down. This book is like a love letter to Noah's mother, Patricia.

I related to some of his stories because I also grew up with a religious African mother. I felt a lot of emotions reading this book, I laughed, cried and smiled. I very much admire Noah's mother's resilience and love for her son.

I had no knowledge of apartheid and its effects on the nation of South Africa but I was able to become aware of this through Noah's personal account.

I find it very inspiring how Noah was able to use humour to go from a poor kid in South Africa to a famous comedian and television host. This book made me realise that anything is possible especially when you never give up.

I feel like everyone should read this book especially if you're looking to laugh and I promise that you will not regret it.
